Currently, other internal projects and in collaboration with different companies in the sector are being developed. Specifically, a project CDTI in the centre UPB-Semen is being finished in 2008, in collaboration with the University of Gerona (UdG), the genetic company UPB; S.A. and the technical assessment of Tecnovit, S.L., about the "Identification of specific nutritional requirements (diet supplements) for boars and the elaboration of specific compound fodders for races and porcine lines in order to improve and stabilize their reproductive efficiency". The aim of the project is to determine the effect of food in the boars related to their quality and elaborate a standard diet. The results of this project have been determined to adjust the diet of most males of the group of multi-genetic centres of Semen Cardona.
Moreover, the centre Biogirona takes part in an other CDTI project, which will finish in May/June 2008, in collaboration with the company Selecció Batallé and the University of Gerona, with the title "Immunocitochemical study of cell wounds along the freezing /defrosting protocol of porcine semen". This project is after to, on the one side, detect genetic factors related to freezing capacity of a boar and, on the other side, improve freezing and defrosting processes of porcine semen ejaculates.
Finally, CIA from Cardona is developing a new study about addition of surfactants in boars' diet and its effect over spermatic quality. This will finish between August/September 2008, and will be a part in a macro project EUREKA (EUR-20060025(SOL-00003915) "EUROAGRI + INFATAN") an European project for the study of the incidence of fats and its improvement in fodder for animal feeding, in which important companies for the porcine sector at European level will take part.
